CARDIFF, WALES

BBC news has reported that workers in Cardiff discovered a 3ft blockage of fat clogging up sewers under the streets of the city.

The fat deposits, known as 'fatbergs', were filmed by Welsh Water as part of an awareness video.

The footage was taken during attempts to clear the blockage in the sewer and shows accumulated fat deposits likely to be from cooking fats and oils.

The blockage had been made worse by wipes and other sanitary products collecting behind the obstruction.

Welsh Water's Let's Stop the Block campaign hopes to educate people on how to deposit items properly, instead of down the toilet or kitchen sink.
