Watling Hope install new wastewater pumping station with 24-hour emergency storage at Oxford Hotel

Oxford, UK

Wastewater pumping and treatment specialists Watling Hope have completed installation of a brand new wastewater pumping station for a privately owned hotel on the outskirts of Oxford.

Westwood Hotel is a small country hotel surrounded by historic woodland near Oxford, it is a historic period building and a popular venue for weddings and other functions.

The sites foul drainage ran to a pumping station which comprised of a single pump discharging some 200m away to the public sewer. The system was in generally poor condition and with only one pump when it became blocked or failed the only means of removing wastewater from site was by vacuum tanker.

Keen to provide a cost-efficient permanent solution to the problem the hotel’s owners contacted Watling Hope.

Watling Hope undertook a full 360 degree review of site requirements, drainage layouts and costs and submitted a proposal to upgrade the existing system.

Key criteria were

  • Quick installation to ensure events schedule could be met
  • Minimal disruption / earthworks
  • Full resilience twin-pump system
  • Discharge to mains sewer
  • 24 hour emergency storage should there be a power failure

The hotel’s owners instructed Watling Hope to proceed and the works were completed over the course of two weeks ontime and on budget.

The owners of the hotel are pleased with installation and commented:

“I am most grateful to you for the work you have carried out on our behalf”
