Watling Hope Grease Shield® keeps pumping station grease-free at Historic Oxford Pub & Restaurant

The Trout Inn is a popular pub on the outskirts of Oxford. Set in a picturesque location next to the river Thames the pub provides high-quality food in a beautiful setting. The Trout Inn was immortalised in Colin Dexter’s Inspector Morse novels.
Due to its rural location and its position next to the river the site has no gravity connection to the main sewer. To address this wastewater from the pub is pumped via a foul water pumping station to the main sewer. The pumping station has been maintained by Watling Hope under a planned preventative maintenance contract for some years.
Owing to increased trade and food levels at the pub the loading on the drainage system has increased, this has led to increases in FOG (fat, oil and grease). FOG was forming a layer on the surface of the sump and also coating the float switches which control operation.
In November 2010 Watling Hope advised the pub owners of the problem and put forward a Grease Shield® for installation up-stream to protect the pump station. The system was installed in late November and within 4 weeks the results of the Grease Shield® were apparent, with vastly reduced FOG levels in the sump and no FOG on the float switches.
